Clarity

The clarity I feel is unmatched – the things I see are no longer my responsibility, they’re no longer in my control. I am not responsible for saving the world; I never was. Just because the world broke me does not make me responsible for fixing it. Only Christ can do that. Only Jesus can save us. It is however my responsibility to honor Jesus and to live in His light, His truth, and in His Gospel.

“My stomach’s been twisted for days now…” Growing up, I felt compelled to fix it all—the injustice in this world – to save it from hurting others. But only Jesus can do that. My calling was always to help heal alongside Jesus; not FOR Him, and most definitely not as a replacement for Him. The things I see on a weekly basis shake me to my core. But only God is just. God is just, God is love, God is merciful. To know God is to know Justice and Mercy and Love.

“It haunts me now, tell me it haunts you too”. Yes, it does. It haunts me when I see humanity falling apart, bursting at the seams. It haunts me when I see others in pain from the hands of another. It hurts me when I see people lost, in pain, grieving from a broken heart. It hurts. BUT. We as nurses are NOT responsible for fixing people! We ARE responsible for loving them, for healing them, for showing them the mercy that God has and has shown to us. We are responsible for the mercy that God has sent from above through his only Son. We are held responsible for showing the world what justice, mercy, love, forgiveness, and truth looks like.

We know very little about the spiritual side of nursing. We may have been taught this side in a small lecture in an introduction to nursing or maybe if we\’re lucky, a course dedicated to this. But, its not a subject we focus on in our career development. You\’ll never see hospital CEU\’s dedicated (or even offered) to spiritual practice or content. Yet, this is arguably the most important part of nursing. On the days when we struggle to have our voices heard by administration, doctors, or even when educating patients, the spiritual side of nursing is SO important. My focus here is to dive into this important part of nursing and how we can utilize it to be better nurses, leaders, mothers/fathers, wives/husbands, sisters/brothers, etc. You get the point.
